Actor-politician Richard Gomez has embraced his role as Ormoc representative after serving as the city mayor for two terms. During a recent interview with the entertainment press at Batasan Pambansa in Quezon City for the launch of CongressTV, the first-term congressman expressed his eagerness to step back into the limelight. Reflecting on his busy tenure as mayor, he shared that his schedule is now lighter in Congress, allowing him to consider acting projects.

Gomez said his last movie was “Three Words to Forever” in 2018 and revealed he is on the lookout for a compelling script and would welcome the opportunity to work again with “Three Words” co-stars Sharon Cuneta and Kathryn Bernardo. When asked about a potential May-December movie with Andrea Brillantes, he eagerly expressed interest.

The seasoned actor revealed that having romantic scenes has never been a problem with his wife, Ormoc Mayor Lucy Torres. In their 25 years of marriage, jealousy has never been an issue, he said. He added that Lucy has always been cordial even with his exes, most of whom are also in showbiz.

Gomez also welcomed the launch of Congress TV, a dedicated channel showcasing the legislative work of the House of Representatives, expressing the importance of highlighting the positive contributions of congressmen and the crucial work on budget laws and projects in their respective districts.

Congress TV airs from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Sunday on PTV Digital Channel 14 Metro Manila, and online via Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and X. It will also be available on Ch 46 on GMA Affordabox and Ch 2 on ABS-CBN TVPlus.

“I’m very, very okay [with CongressTV] para makita ng mga tao ‘yung trabaho na ginagawa ng congressman kasi maraming simple lumalabas sa TV laging akala nila negative masyado ‘yung congress, but they did not understand na ang daming trabahong ginagawa dito and very important. Number one ‘yung pinakamalaking batas na ginagawa namin dito is really the budget law every year. ‘Yung budget ng buong gobyerno, ng buong Pilipinas dito nagsisimula,” Richard said.

“I think ang magandang ipakita dito ‘yung ginagawa namin sa district, ‘yung mga mga projects na namin nagagawa, kunyari, for example, paggawa ng mga mga farm to market roads, ‘yung mga palay program… I think dapat makita ng tao ‘yun,”

PTV general manager Ana Puod noted that Congress TV is part of PTV’s 50th-anniversary celebration as a broadcast institution.
