Actor-politician Ramon “Bong” Revilla, Jr. was declared Comedy Actor of the Year by the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation at this year’s Box Office Entertainment Awards. The event was held at the Manila Hotel last Sunday, May 12, in the Henry Lee Theater of Ateneo De Manila University.
Senator Revilla was recognized for his performance in GMA’s top-rating action-comedy series, “Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis,” where he stars opposite Beauty Gonzales, who was awarded Comedy Actress of the Year. The show is a TV adaptation of Revilla’s 1994 hit movie of the same title.
Revilla, currently on medical leave from the Senate due to a tear in his Achilles tendon, was represented by his wife, Congresswoman Lani Mercado-Revilla, and son, AGIMAT Partylist Congressman Bryan Revilla, at the ceremony.
“I am deeply honored and grateful to be selected as the Comedy Actor of the Year in the esteemed Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation’s Box Office Entertainment Awards. I am truly humbled. Nagpapasalamat po ako sa lahat ng sumuporta sa ‘Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis’ sa nakalipas na dalawang season. Ang award na ito ay hindi lang para sa akin kundi para sa lahat ng tumawa, nakiiyak, at nakisaya,” Revilla said in a pre-recorded video message played during the event.
Revilla holds four Box Office Entertainment Awards for Box Office King from the Guillermo Mendoza Memorial Scholarship Foundation in addition to his latest trophy. He also won Best Comedy Actor at the 2001 PMPC Star Awards for TV for his hit sitcom “Idol Ko si Kap.”
In “Walang Matigas na Pulis sa Matinik na Misis,” Revilla plays Major Bartolome Reynaldo, a strong but submissive husband known as Tolome, to his wife Gloria, played by Beauty Gonzales. The show began airing on GMA in June 2023 and, due to its high ratings, was renewed for another season, which concluded last week.
