THE Department of Education said no untoward incidents were monitored yesterday during the resumption of classes after the Christmas and New Year’s break.
“No untoward incidents have been reported so far in relation to the resumption of classes.
However, classes were suspended by the LGUs of certain areas in Regions V, VI, VIII and MIMAROPA due to (the) inclement weather,” DepEd Spokesperson Michael Tan Poa said.
Poa added that reports from their regional offices in Northern Mindanao and Caraga showed that eight schools are still being used as evacuation centers by residents affected by the flooding brought by the heavy downpour that hit parts of Mindanao and the Visayas over the Christmas weekend.
Under DepEd Order No.37 issued by Vice President and DepEd Secretary Sara Duterte, schools may be used as immediate evacuation sites in times of calamities but not for more than 15 days.
The number of schools in Northern Mindanao, Zamboanga Peninsula and Caraga that sustained damage due to flooding also rose to 41 from the initial 36 reported to the DepEd Central Office.
