A RETIRED police official was arrested inside the PNP national headquarters at Camp Crame last Tuesday afternoon for illegally transporting 15 firearms owned by a security agency where he is employed.

The PNP withheld the identity of the retired police officer, reportedly with a rank of colonel, pending the conduct of a probe against him and the security agency.

Policemen found the firearms in the car of the retired cop during a routine inspection at around 2 p.m. Found in the car were 11 pistols and four shotguns, said Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, director of the PNP Firearms and Explosives Office.

The firearms are all legal and registered under the name of the GenB Security Agency where the suspect is connected.

“However, they (suspect and the security agency) have no exemption from the Comelec (Commission on Elections),” said Lucas, referring to a permit from Comelec authorizing the transport of firearms.

Such permit is required during an election period. The 90-day election period in connection with the October 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections started last August 28.

The firearms being transported were supposed to be deposited at a vault of the security agency at Camp Crame, said Lucas.
