A RETIRED police major was arrested by operatives of the PNP Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) in Tuguegarao City in Cagayan for slander, it was reported yesterday.
IMEG said ex-Major Arthur Sto Tomas, 49, was last assigned with the Regional Mobile Force Battalion II as Explosives and Ordnance Disposal team leader.
IMEG operatives, augmented by policemen from the Tuguegarao City police station, arrested Sto. Tomas at 10:40 a.m. last Friday in Barangay Cataggaman Nuevo by virtue of an arrest warrant issued by Tuguegarao judge Racquel Reyes-Aglaua for slander. The warrant was issued last September 7.
IMEG said the slander case was filed against Sto. Tomas after he uttered “unsavory remarks” against a “client” in 2017 while assigned as the chief investigator of the Tuguegarao City police station.
Sto. Tomas is currently detained at the Tuguegarao City police station.
In a statement, IMEG said the arrest of Sto. Tomas was in line with the PNP’s intensified campaign against wanted active and former members of the PNP.
IMEG director Brig. Gen. Warren De Leon said their operations are targeting active and former policemen regardless of their status and rank.
De Leon vowed that IMEG operatives would run after active or former members of the PNP if they were wanted for violation of the law.
