POLICE and military personnel arrested a retired police captain allegedly involved in gunrunning in Pagsanjan, Laguna, the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) reported.
CIDG Director Maj. Gen. Romeo Caramat Jr. named the suspect as retired Capt. Marcelito Michelana Marcial, 60, who retired from the service in 2019.
Marcial is said to be a member of the Dizon criminal gang allegedly involved in gunrunning activities in Calabarzon and the National Capital Region (NCR).
Marcial was arrested in a buy-bust operation conducted by operatives of the CIDG and Pagsanjan police station and personnel from the Intelligence Service of the AFP (ISAFP) on General Tinio St. in Pagsanjan Wednesday last week, the CIDG announced last Saturday night.
Seized from Marcial were a cal. 45 pistol, two magazines, six rounds of ammunition, a holster, the buy-bust money, and a Honda CRV sports utility vehicle.
“Marcial has been transacting with buyers of loose firearms in the areas of Batangas and Laguna provinces through text messages and calls,” said Caramat.
“He is included in the CI (counter-intelligence) watchlist of ISAFP as a member of the Dizon criminal gang, which is involved in gunrunning activities in Calabarzon and NCR,” added Caramat.
Marcial is detained at the CIDG Batangas Provincial Field Office, facing charges of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
