WITH just three days before Election Day, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) yesterday reminded the public to report incidents of vote buying and vote selling, which are considered election offenses.
In a press conference, Elections Commissioner Aimee Ferolino said they are strongly encouraging the public to report vote buying and selling cases to the “Task Force Kontra Bigay,” adding that, “we will be activating the Citizens Complaint Center.”
She said complainants can also send their reports to kontrabigay@gmail.com, the official email address of the task force.
The poll official said the complaints can also be submitted to the local Offices of the Election Officer, Philippine National Police, Department of Justice, and Integrated Bar of the Philippines.
“These are the four avenues where a complaint can be filed,” said Ferolino.
It was back in March when the Comelec formed a task force dedicated to run after vote buying and selling cases.
So far, Ferolino said the task force has yet to receive any complaints regarding vote buying and selling.
To note, vote buying and selling are considered as election offenses, which carries the penalty of one to six years imprisonment, disqualification to hold public office, and removal of right to vote.
