This May, The Art District Gallery presents “Maynila: Noon at Ngayon,” an exhibition featuring premiere Filipino contemporary sculptors whose works will narrate Manila’s legacy of being one of the centers of arts and culture in the country.
Gathering eight of the most respected Filipino visual artists in the country, the exhibition — through space, form, and physically — illustrates images that hint at the city’s opulent history that remain vibrant amidst modernity.
Rep. Yul Servo said the exhibit showcases works of the following artists: Ral Arrogante, Wilson William Montes Baldemor, Richard Buxani, Frederic Caedo, Joe Datuin, Chris Magbuhos, Sam Penaso, and Jun Rodrigo Vicaldo.
Part of the exhibition’s proceeds goes to the youth scholars of TAD’s learning programs where youth aged 16 and up, and based in barangays in Manila, are taught about art free of charge, added the actor-politician.
The Art District (TAD) is a new contemporary gallery inside Calvo Building, an old 1938 structure along Escolta Street Binondo, Manila. Escolta Street, which is known for its row of elegant art-deco buildings designed by notable architects, has a long history of being the business and cultural hub of the Philippines. TAD’s mission is to help in the existing effort to restore Escolta’s rightful place as the distinguished cultural foundation of Manila. By providing a venue for contemporary art that is accessible and inspirational, TAD helps recapture Manila’s legacy for being the center of Arts and Culture in the Philippines.
“Maynila: Noon at Ngayon” was launched on May 15 and will run until June 10, 2021. The Art Gallery is located at Room 205 Calvo Building Escolta St. Binondo, Manila. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday (closed on Mondays) from 12 noon to 9 p.m. For more, contact Donato Nesperos (0927-793-7441) or send email to tadgalleryph@gmail.com.
