JUSTICE Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla, who has not appeared before media since March this year, is still recovering from his heart bypass operation almost a year ago, the department spokesperson said yesterday.
But Remulla remains active in the department, giving guidance to his subordinates, said Justice Assistant Secretary Jose Dominic Clavano.
He made the assurance after reporters asked him how Remulla is doing.
“He’s okay. He’s still recovering from his bypass and the doctor advised him to take it slow dahil siyempre hindi biro yung lima na binaypass na arteries ni Secretary (considering the surgery involved five arteries). But right now, he is active. He gives instructions every day,” Clavano told reporters in an online briefing.
“All the undersecretaries and assistant secretaries are given instructions almost on a daily basis. We can see him online. Most of the time we are able to visit him in his home where he has a home office,” he added.
Clavano said Remulla’s immune system is weak because of the medicines he is taking.
“But just for everyone’s information, the Secretary is well and is hoping to come back to work as soon as possible,” he added.
To recall, the DOJ chief underwent a bypass procedure on June 27, 2023 after his physical examination the week before showed heart blockage. He was discharged from the hospital five days later.
Remulla earlier said that despite his health condition, the thought of resigning from his post never crossed his mind.
