THE son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla attended yesterday’s preliminary investigation of another drug-related case filed against him before the Pasay City Prosecutor’s Office in connection with his arrest last month over P1.3 million worth of kush or high-grade marijuana seized by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Wearing a dark hoodie, a dark baseball cap, and dark eyeglasses, Juanito Jose III was accompanied by his lawyer to the hearing for the case of importation of dangerous drugs and failure to submit documents that he is allowed to import in violation of the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act.
Remulla and his lawyer immediately left the prosecutor’s office after the hearing without giving any interview to the media.
The case is separate from the violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 that was raffled off to the sala of Las Pinas RTC Branch 197 Presiding Judge Ricardo Moldez II last week although it stemmed from the same PDEA operation.
Remulla was apprehended in a controlled delivery operation at Talon Dos, Las Pinas last October 11.
The DOJ chief has been tight-lipped on his son’s case, although he promised that he would not use his power or authority to influence the outcome of the case.
He also said he would not resign amid calls from some quarters to do so.
