THE Las Piñas City Regional Trial Court yesterday raffled off the drug case filed against the eldest son of Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

The case against Juanito Jose III for violation of Section 11 of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be handled by Las Piñas RTC Branch 197 Presiding Judge Ricardo Moldez II.

The younger Remulla was arrested in a controlled delivery operation by operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency at Talon Dos, Las Piñas last October 11.

Seized from his was P1.3 million worth of “kush,” or high-grade marijuana.

The raffle of the case was originally set last week but it was deferred due to the national convention of judges.

The DOJ chief has been tight-lipped on his son’s case, although he vowed that he would not use his power or authority to influence the case. He also defied calls for his resignation.

Remulla earlier said he is confident the prosecutor’s resolution on his son’s case would not reach his office. As DOJ chief, Remulla has the power to review resolutions issued by state prosecutors.

A circular issued by Remulla last July revised the rules on appealing decisions of the National Prosecution Service.

The new rule, among others, gives Remulla the authority to review a resolution or decision of the NPS on his own.
