THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) is eyeing to launch its “register anywhere” system in government offices and private establishments to encourage more workers to register as voters.
In a recent press briefing, Comelec chairman George Garcia said that he has directed Deputy Executive Director for Operations (ODEDO) Teopisto Elnas to look into the possibility of holding voter registration activities in government offices using the new system, aside from shopping malls.
“I want to hold sample activities in government agencies. Let’s bring our machines there and hold registration activities,” Garcia has said.
Similarly, he said he wants to involve more private establishments in the voter registration activities.
“Let us go to private entities and let those who are not yet registered to get registered,” he added.
By doing this, Garcia said the Comelec will be able to enlist more, particularly members of the labor sector.
“Many are still unable to get registered because they have work. If this becomes successful in government agencies and private establishments, it will be a welcome development,” said Garcia.
He said they are pulling out all the stops to ensure the success of the register anywhere system when it is launched.
“We created a task force, a committee that will evaluate, implement, and ensure that the implementation of register anywhere will be efficient,” said Garcia.
