WITH water service interruption set to start today in several parts of Metro Manila, the Philippine College of Physicians yesterday warned the public against drinking rain water which it said is contaminated.
“Rain water is exposed water. It is also considered to be contaminated. This means that it is not for drinking,” PCP president Dr Rontgene Solante said in a briefing.
“Even if we boil it, it is not good for drinking. It is really just for washing,” he added.
The infectious disease expert said consuming rainwater carries the risk of getting infected with water-borne diseases like typhoid fever, shigella, hepatitis A, cholera, rotavirus, and amoebiasis.
The daily water service interruption that starts today covers customers of Maynila in six Metro Manila cities, namely Caloocan, Malabon, Manila, Navotas, Quezon, and Valenzuela.
Maynilad has advised affected customers to prepare by storing enough water for their needs. — Gerard Naval
