TWO persons died, four remain missing, and at least 3,000 others have been displaced by rains from the tail-end of the frontal system (TEFS) that has been affecting parts of the country in the past past days.
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council yesterday said the two fatalities are both from the Bicol region. One drowned in Camarines Sur after his boat capsized while the other was washed away by floodwaters in Sorsogon.
The four missing are also from the Bicol region. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, said the Camp Aguinaldo-based NDRRMC.
The agency said 2,409 families or 9,158 persons from 70 barangays in Bicol, Mimaropa, and Western Visayas regions were affected by the weather system.
The number includes 562 families or 2,067 persons who are staying in 13 evacuation centers and 450 families or 1,224 persons who are staying with relatives.
The TEFS, which brought light to heavy rains to large parts of the country, has rendered 19 road sections and three bridges in the Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Bicol, and Western Visayas regions not passable due to flooding and landslides the NDRRMC said.
The NDRRMC also said 12 barangays in Silay City in Negros Occidental have been experiencing power outage since Friday.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), in a n 11 a.m. bulletin, said the TEFS will bring moderate, with at times heavy rains, to the Bicol region and Quezon province, including Polillo Islands.
PAGASA said scattered light to moderate rains may prevail in Metro Manila, Mimaropa, the Visayas, Mindanao, the rest of Calabarzon, and the provinces of Aurora, Nueva Ecija, Bulacan.
“Flooding (including flash floods) and rain-induced landslides may occur during heavy or prolonged periods of rainfall, especially in areas identified to be highly susceptible to these hazards or in localities that received significant amount of rainfall over the past couple of days or weeks,” PAGASA said.
