THE Bureau of Immigration yesterday claimed the raided underground clinic in Pasay City that allegedly caters to foreigners working in the Philippine Offshore Gaming Operation (POGO) is also involved in abortion practices.

BI spokesperson Dana Krizia Sandoval said information received by the agency and the Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC) showed the underground clinic on Macapagal Blvd. in Pasay City is involved in “nefarious activities” such as abortion.

The clinic situated among Chinese restaurants are ran by Chinese and Vietnamese nationals.

“In the front, it was just a regular wellness clinic. So it’s like a spa with other wellness procedures. But at the back, there are actually covert operations on foreign nationals doing these, karumaldumal itong activities na ito,” Sandoval said in a forum in Manila.

BI and PAOCC operatives raided the clinic last Tuesday and recovered several pieces of high-end medical equipment such as a hemodialysis machine.

Three Vietnamese, including one who introduced himself as a “doctor,” and two Chinese were arrested by the raiding team.

Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco identified the three as Vietnamese Trinh Dinh Sang, who identified himself as a “doctor,” Nguyen Duy Quynh and Pham Thi Nhu Hieu while the Chinese were identified as Xie Jun,and Zhai Jian Gang.

Tansingco said they received information that Sang was involved in “illegal procedures, including cosmetic enhancement as well as abortion.”

“Their activities are dangerous and pose as a threat to public safety. We are thankful for the cooperation of our partners in government in this effort to locate and arrest these illegal aliens,” Tansingco said.

Sandoval said information provided by the city government of Pasay showed the establishment had no permits while the employees had no working visas.

“They do not have permits. They have no work visas. They do not have anything, essentially. It’s an underground clinic,” Sandoval said.

Sandoval appealed to local government units to report to the agency the illegal activities of foreigners in their area.

Sang and his cohorts are detained at the BI detention facility in Bicutan, Taguig pending the resolution of the deportation proceedings against them.
