“QUIEL” intensified into a storm from a tropical depression on Tuesday night and is expected to become a severe tropical storm, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Quiel, however, is not seen to make landfall.
As of 3 p.m. yesterday, the center of Quiel was some 455 km west northwest of Coron, Palawan. It was packing sustained winds of 75 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 90 kph.

“It remains almost stationary,” PAGASA said.
Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, and the provinces of Pangasinan and Negros Oriental will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.
