THE Department of Education has set the National Qualifying Examination for School Heads (NQESH) on May 26.

The NQESH, also known as the Principal’s Test, is one of the requirements for the appointment and reclassification of all aspiring applicants to the principal and assistant principal positions in all public elementary and secondary schools nationwide.

“The Department of Education, through the Bureau of Human Resource and Organizational Development (BHROD), shall administer the 2023 NQESH through a secured online platform at a designated examination site on May 26, 2024. The examination shall be administered simultaneously nationwide,” DepEd Memorandum Order No.13 issued on Monday, February 26, said.

Aspiring NQESH takers must have the following qualifications: one year as head teacher, two years as master teacher, two years as teacher-in-charge, and teaching experience for five years in teacher III or other teacher positions with the same salary, aggregate experience as head teacher, teacher-in-charge, master teacher, and teacher III as well as incumbent public school teacher who has managerial and supervisory experience in private institutions recognized by DepEd, or of the Commission on Higher Education.

The examination, according to the DepEd, will cover conceptual and situational critical thinking questions aligned with the standards set by the Philippine Professional Standards for School Heads (PPSSH) or the National Adoption and Implementation of the PPSSH standards.

“It shall serve as a mechanism to safeguard and gauge the competency and quality of the aspiring school leaders in DepEd schools,” the DepEd added.
