CHARGES of qualified theft, falsification of public documents and violation of the Cybercrime Prevention Act will be filed against an employee of the Philippine Sports Commission who falsified the payroll of the agency, crediting the allowances of athletes and coaches who are no longer connected with the PSC into his bank account.
NBI Officer-In-Charge Eric Distor said Paul Michael Padua Ignacio, based on initial investigation, has embezzled P14, 448,254.35 from August 2015 to May 2020.
The NBI said Ignacio, assigned at the PSC’s Personnel department, was tasked to prepare the monthly payroll allowance of athletes and coaches and forward it to the Land Bank.
“Subject Ignacio then includes the names if unqualified athletes and coaches in the payroll and put his own payroll account number as the account number of the unqualified athletes and coaches,” Distor said in a statement.
May 2020 totalled to P14, 448,254.35.
Last month, Ignacio included in the payroll six unqualified athletes and coaches with a total amount of P450,150 credited to his account number.
NBI operatives arrested Ignacio last July 14 at the PSC office in Manila for questioning.
Distor said his men seized Ignacio’s laptop and desktop computer for investigation.
