THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority yesterday said Quezon City (Central District) is the most fatal area for motorists, with 46 fatal road accidents from January to July this year out of the 168 fatal road accidents in the metropolis.
Data provided by the agency showed that Quezon City had 4,280 non-fatal road accidents during the same period and another 12,374 damage to property.
Manila had the second-highest number of fatal road crashes with 20, followed by 16 in Caloocan, 15 in Taguig, 11 in Paranaque, and 10 each in Marikina and Pasig.
The 168 fatal road crashes are part of the total 44,493 vehicular accidents in the metropolis from January to July, with 32,800 resulting in damage to property and 11,525 non-fatal injuries.
The highest number of road crashes at 7,505 was recorded last May, followed by 7,305 last March.
July proved to be the safest month, with just 3,277 road accidents.
For the months of January, February, April, May, and June, the MMDA recorded 6,447, 6,483, 6,604, and 6,872 road accidents, respectively.
The agency said four-wheeled type vehicles accounted for almost 44,000 of the vehicles that figured in road accidents.
MMDA Chairperson Romando Artes had reminded motorists to strictly follow traffic rules and regulations to prevent road accidents even while the No Contact Apprehension Policy is still suspended.
Artes said the agency has tallied 256,977 traffic violations in Metro Manila from the time the NCAP was suspended in August last year up to the first week of June this year.
He said although the NCAP has been suspended by the Supreme Court, the agency is still monitoring CCTVs installed all over the metropolis.
