IT will be a Duterte-Duterte victory if the 2022 elections for president and vice president were held today, a June 7-13 “Ulat sa Bayan” survey of Pulse Asia showed.
The survey, which involved 2,400 adult respondents nationwide and had a margin of error of ±2 percent, showed that Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio as the top choice of Filipinos for president, with 28 percent while her father, President Duterte is the first choice for vice president with, 18 percent.
Duterte-Carpio is the top choice for president of respondents from Mindanao (62 percent) and the Visayas (30 percent) and across socio-economic classes (21 percent to 40 percent).
She has been leading surveys since December 2020.
Other personalities considered for president were Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso and former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. (both 14 percent), Sen. Grace Poe (10 percent), Sen. Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquiao (8 percent), Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo (6 percent) and Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson (4 percent).
The other choices for president were Sen. Christopher “Bong” Go, former vice president Jejomar Binay, Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano, and former senator Antonio Trillanes IV, all with 2 percent.
Domagoso is the top choice for president of the respondents from Metro Manila (23 percent) while Marcos is the first choice of respondents from Luzon (18 percent).
Duterte-Carpio recently said she is open to the idea of running for president but would not run if her father would seek the vice presidency.
In the vice presidential race, 18 percent of the respondents said they will vote for President Duterte if the elections are being held now. Duterte has been floating the idea of running for the second highest post, saying as vice president, he will be able him to complete programs and projects that remain to be done after his term ends. However, on Monday night, said he was doing just to “scare” his critics and political opponents.
The other personalities in the vice presidential list are: Domagoso (14 percent), Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Marcos (10 percent), Pacquiao (9 percent), Cayetano (8 percent), Sorsogon Gov. Francis Escudero (7 percent), Go (5 percent), television host Willie Revillame (4 percent), Sen. Juan Edgardo Sonny” Angara (3 percent), Trillanes and Public Works Secretary Mark Villar (2 percent ), and former defense secretary Gilbert “Gibo” Teodoro (1 percent).
The President is the top choice for vice president of Mindanaoans (35 percent) and those from the socioeconomic class D (18 percent) and E (16 percent). Duterte and Domagoso are first choice for vice president of those from the Visayas (14 percent).
Domagoso is the top choice of the respondents from Luzon (14 percent) and Manila Metro Manila (19 percent), while Domagoso and Sotto are the first choice for vice president of those belonging to the socio-economic class ABC (15 percent).
Pulse Asia said among 30 personalities that it listed as potential candidates for senator, the top 13 are Pacquiao (54 percent), Moreno (53.7 percent), Duterte-Carpio (47.7 percent), journalist Raffy Tulfo (46.4 percent), Cayetano (46), Escudero (45.6 percent), Marcos (39.7 percent), Rep. Loren Legarda (38.8 percent), Lacson (35.7 percent), Revillame (34.8 percent), former senator Jinggoy Estrada (33.3 percent), Sen. Juan Miguel Zubiri (30.6 percent), and Binay (30.5 percent).
