AMID the high number of rabies cases in the country, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) yesterday warned the public against counterfeit versions of the anti-rabies vaccine “Purified Chick Embryo Cell Culture Rabies Vaccine (Vaxirab N) ≥ 2.5 IU Lyophilized Powder for Solution for Injection (IM/ID).”
Based on Advisory No. 2024-0823, the FDA said some features of the counterfeit versions are not comparable with the standard features of the registered product, including batch number and product labeling.
According to the FDA, consumption of counterfeit anti-rabies vaccines “pose potential danger or injury to consumers.”
The warning comes nearly a week after the Department of Health said there are more rabies cases this year, at 169, or 13 percent higher compared to the reported 150 cases in the same period in 2023.
