PSG officer named Scout Ranger head

THE deputy commander of the Presidential Security Group has been appointed as commander of the First Scout Ranger Regiment, an elite unit under the Philippine Army.

Col. Freddie dela Cruz assumed his new post in rites held at the FSRR headquarters in Camp Tecson in San Miguel, Bulacan on Tuesday. Army chief Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana presided over the ceremony.

Dela Cruz, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1992, replaced Maj. Gen. William Gonzales (Class 1989) who assumed the post of commander of both the Joint Task Force Sulu and 11th Infantry Division last August.

Dela Cruz held various positions in the FSRR before his latest assignment, including commander of the 4th Scout Ranger Battalion deployed in Mindanao, and 3rd Scout Ranger Company in Visayas. After finishing a Scout Ranger course in the country during the early part of his military career, Dela Cruz passed the US Army Ranger Course in Fort Benning in Georgia.

Dela Cruz is also holds a master’s degree in national security administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines.
