THE proposed amendment in the Philippine Olympic Committee constitution and by-laws barring candidates 70 years old from running as candidates in the POC polls scheduled in November is a “dead issue,” according to gymnastics chief Cynthia Carrion.
“I don’t think we will have any problems with the (70-year-old) age cap. It is a dead issue,” said Carrion, a member of the 13-man POC Executive Board, who will join the other members in a caucus today to discuss the remaining two amendments to the POC charter.
“All of us board members agreed there will no longer be an age cap,” said the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines president, who is over 70 but opposed to the amendment.
Upon the prodding of the International Olympic Committee, POC secretary general Atty. Ed Gastanes notified the 13-man Executive Board that the “POC President requests for an informal caucus of all the members of the Executive Board on 25 August 2020 at 2 p.m. via Zoom.
“Agenda is possible amendments to the POC Constitution and by-laws.”
POC president Rep. Bambol Tolentino is the main proponent of the age cap and reorganizing the composition of the present board following the model set by the IOC.
