A couple of empowered lady voices emerged with slick music videos embracing the spirit of fiery love and longing caused by the pandemic.
Ex-General Luna member Caren Tevanny dedicates her “Hiram” music video for “those who passed in this difficult time”
The lady singer-guitarist thinks of her own song as having taken a new meaning with what’s happening, in particular the scores of virus infections and deaths. That the track has a music video which premiered via social media early last month of April makes that change in view all the more interesting and emphatically moving.
Directed by Edrex Clyde Sanchez, the music video complemented one of Caren’s most streamed singles to date.
“At that time when I released the track, iba pa ‘yung meaning ng song the way I interpreted it. But after the sudden turn of events, the song seemed to have chosen its own in the context of what’s happening,” shared Caren, who first burst into the local music scene as member of the all-girl rock band General Luna.

The video is a tribute to Caren’s mom who passed away. The track, with Caren singing and her guitar weeping, also features the work of guitarist James Mollo, drummer Ishmael Ty, and bass player Lui Rodriguez.
Caren has so far put out four digital singles, the other three being English tracks “Try,” “Serendipity,” and “Desire.” She is set to release three new singles this year.
Caren noted, “Being on my own gave me room to be more experimental to some extent but approachable pa rin by most listeners yung musicality. Song is king, the lead guitar follows.”
Equally interesting is the on-location music video that introduces sultry singer Noela Amparo with her debut single “Sandalan.”
The video was uploaded on YouTube last April 20 and was shot in Tarlac.
In the video, Noela is paired with a long-haired, handsome young man and is also seen performing with her back-up Apat Band of instrumentalists.
Noela co-hosts live streaming channel Apat TV, and does live online gigs every Wednesday.
Her recording of “Sandalan” came after producer Pat Achas heard her demo of it. It was recorded at Apat Studio in Tarlac, then mixed and mastered at Forgiven Music Studio in Quezon City.
“I feel that ‘Sandalan’ is a representation of a strong, brave and dependable woman who will and can do anything for someone she loves, whether it’s a person, her passion and her dream. It is a reflection of what I can do as a woman and it is a song of power and bravery,” shared the Pinay singer who hails from Bacoor, Cavite.
“Sandalan,” written by author-musician Yugel Losorata, was first recorded by “The Voice Kids Philippines” finalist Angel Andal. That rendition and Noela’s cover both made it to Spotify’s New Music Friday playlist last year.
