AN off-duty policeman from Ilocos Sur who helped save the life of a four-year-old drowning victim in Santa town last May 30 has earned praises from PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar.

Eleazar said other policemen must emulate the heroism of M/Sgt. Gilbert Andulay, a member of the 103rd Maneuver Company of the Regional Mobile Force Battalion 1 assigned at the Quarantine Control Point at the boundaries of Narvacan, Ilocos Sur, and Abra.

Andulay performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation on the 4-year-old girl who was fished from the seawaters of Barangay Magsaysay, a video of which has gone virla. The girl was rushed to a hospital after she regained consciousness.

Reports said Andulay, who was off-duty that time, was set to visit a fisherman-friend after jogging in Barangay Magsaysay when someone approached him and asked for his help to save the child.

Eleazar said Andulay and other cops who showed genuine public service beyond duty should serve as reminders for other policemen on why they joined the police organization.
He said Andulay will be given an appropriate award in recognition of his dedication to service.
