ANOTHER Filipino priest is set to serve in the Vatican after he was appointed by Pope Francis to co-head a division under the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches, which is headed by Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle.
Msgr. Erwin Jose Balagapo of the Archdiocese of Palo will be joining Korean Msgr. Han Hyun-taek who was also appointed as official of the Section for the First Evangelization and New Particular Churches, said CBCP News, the official news agency of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines.
“Both of them have been working in the dicastery before their promotion,” it said.
The two will serve in their new roles for five years, CBCP News also said.
Balagapo was born in Tacloban City in March 1971. The Canon lawyer was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of Palo in July 1996. Balagapo has been working at the Dicastery since 2015 after having further studies in Rome.
Tagle, former Manila archbishop, has been serving as the pro-prefect for the Section of Evangelization of the Dicastery for Evangelization since June 2022.
