TEN months since being orphaned of a papal envoy, Pope Francis yesterday appointed Archbishop John Charles Brown as the new Apostolic Nuncio to the Philippines.
In a report by Vatican Press, it said the announcement of Brown’s appointment was made public on September 28 at 12 noon (Rome time).
“The Holy Father has appointed His Excellency Monsignor Charles John Brown, currently Apostolic Nuncio in Albania, to the Philippines as Apostolic Nuncio,” said the Vatican Press.
This was confirmed by acting Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president Bishop Pablo David in a Facebook post.
“The Diocese of Kalookan welcomes the appointment of the new Nuncio to the Philippines,” said David.
Brown was born in New York, USA on October 13, 1959, and was ordained priest for the Archdiocese of New York on May 13, 1989.
From 1994, he was designated as an official of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith in the Vatican.
Brown was consecrated as Archbishop on January 6, 2012.
He was appointed Apostolic Nuncio to Ireland on November 26, 2011, and Apostolic Nuncio to Albania on March 9, 2017.
It was back in November 2019 when then Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Gabriele Caccia, was appointed by the Holy See as Permanent Observer to the United Nations.
