PNP chief Guillermo Eleazar yesterday ordered the relief of a police precinct commander who allegedly assaulted four of his subordinate personnel in Gen. Santos City.

Capt. Nemecio Calipjo Jr., chief of Gen. Santos City’s Police Precinct 8, is now the subject of an investigation by the PNP Internal Affairs Service (IAS) for possible administrative sanctions.

Eleazar said he ordered Brig. Gen. Michael John Dubri, director of the Soccsksargen regional police, to relieve Calipjo “while the investigation is being conducted against him.”

Reports reaching Eleazar’s office said Calipjo, who was reportedly drunk, arrived at the precinct at around 1:30 a.m. last Sunday and ordered his men to go on a formation.

Armed with an M-16 rifle, Calipjo allegedly castigated his men and threatened to kill them for not acting on a concern brought to their attention by a resident close to him.

Calipjo reportedly punched and slapped four of his men while castigating them. During the one-and-a-half hours incident, Calipjo’s rifle accidentally went off though no one was reported hurt.

“All police commanders should set good leadership examples to their men and what police Capt. Calipjo did, based on the initial report I received, was clearly a breach of discipline and violation of PNP rules and regulations,” said Eleazar, adding he cannot allow such an officer to lead a police unit in the community.

Eleazar, who is due to retire on November 14, vowed that Calipjo will face serious sanctions if proven guilty.
