THE PNP has requested a copy of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) complaint it filed against 22 policemen and officials of the Bureau of Corrections linked to the mysterious deaths of eight inmates at the National Bilibid Prisons (NBP) two years ago.
In yesterday’s Laging Handa public briefing, PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo said the PNP needs to review the complaint so it can commence its own administrative investigation against the lawmen.
“As of now, we are still waiting for the official copy of the complaint filed by the NBI before the DOJ (Department of Justice). The request was sent by our DIDM (Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management) last week,” said Fajardo.
“Hopefully in the coming days we will be able to receive the official copy and that will be the basis of our subsequent action pertaining to the case filed by the NBI,” she added.
Fajardo said the PNP cannot yet summon the 22 personnel, all reportedly assigned with the National Capital Region Police Office, for administration investigation because they do not have an official copy of the complaint.
“Once we get the official copy, we will account those PNP personnel… we will make sure all the personnel named in the complaint will be accounted for. We will initiate appropriate administrative proceedings if evidence warrants,” Fajardo said.
In the murder complaint recently filed by the NBI before the DOJ, the policemen were linked to the deaths of eight high-profile NBP inmates from May to June 2020.
The NBI said the respondents may have used COVID-19 as a cover for the death of the eight inmates, whom witnesses have supposedly said were well, lively and normal before they were taken to Site Harry, an NBP special facility serving as an isolation facility for prisoners infected with COVID-19.
The eight inmates were identified as Francis Go, Shuli Zhang, Jimmy Ang, Eugene Chua, Benjamin Marcelo, Sherwin Sanchez, Amin Imam Boratong, and Willy Yang.
Sanchez was convicted for murder while the rest are facing jail time for drug trafficking.
