PNP nullifies ‘premature’ order

THE PNP leadership has nullified an order designating Lt. Gen. Michael John Dubria as acting PNP Deputy Chief for Administration (DCA), the second highest position in the police force.

Dubria assumed the post, in concurrent capacity as the PNP’s No. 3 man as PNP Deputy Chief for Operations, following the retirement of Lt. Gen. Rhodel Sermonia on January 26.

The nullification of Dubria’s designation as acting DCA was contained in an order signed by Maj. Gen. Belli Tamayo, PNP director for personnel and records management, and issued on January 29 “by command of Police General Acorda, Jr”, referring to PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr.

“I was made to understand that the order was issued prematurely,” said PNP spokeswoman Col. Jean Fajardo on the order designating Dubria as the acting DCA.

Fajardo said the designation should have been made “within the authority our President,” implying there was still no official order from President Marcos Jr.

She said Dubria was designated by the PNP as the DCA officer-in-charge to “somehow fill the vacancy created by the retirement by Gen. Sermonia.”

“However, since the position requires the appointment of the President, the PNP deemed it necessary to nullify the said order so as not to preempt whatever appointment the President will issue in the coming days,” she said.

“So it was nullified to give deference to the official appointment that will be made by our President. So accordingly, it was prematurely issued that’s why it was nullified all together,” she said.

Dubria, a member of the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1991, assumed the post of PNP Deputy Chief for Operations in May last year. He has served as PNP Chief Directorial Staff.
