NEARLY P6 billion worth of illegal drugs have been seized since January this year in the government’s continuing war on drugs, the PNP said yesterday.

Col. Redrico Maranan, chief of the PNP’s Public Information Office, reported the accomplishment during the Laging Handa public briefing yesterday.

“We continue to conduct anti-drug operations. In fact, from January up to now, May, we have already seized almost P6 billion worth of illegal drugs,” said Maranan.

Maranan said the PNP conducted some 16,000 anti-drug operations throughout the country during the same period.

He said the anti-drug operations resulted in the arrest of 21,000 offenders.

Maranan said there are no known large illegal drug laboratories operating in the country.

“As of now, our anti-drug operatives have not monitored large drug laboratories in the country,” said Maranan.

He said drug syndicates in the country have stopped operating laboratories in the country “due to the intensified campaign (against illegal drugs) that we are conducting now.”

“The modus operandi of the drug syndicates is they are smuggling illegal drugs into the country (from other countries),” said Maranan.

“You know our geographical setting; our coastal areas are very porous so it’s where these illegal drugs are entering. But we are not letting our guards down,” said Maranan.
