THE PNP has acquired P1.23 billion worth of additional equipment, including firearms and vehicles, boosting the police force’s law enforcement capabilities throughout the country.
The equipment was presented to the media and blessed in rites presided over by PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. at the PNP national headquarters at Camp Crame yesterday.
The new equipment consists of 4,033 units of 5.56 mm basic assault rifles; 9,544 units of 9mm pistols; 200 patrol jeeps; 326 motorcycles; two high-speed tactical watercraft; 10 utility trucks; 5,458 digital handheld radios; and 221 VHR low-band hand-held radios.
PNP Directorate for Logistics Maj. Gen. Ronaldo Olay said the equipment was acquired using funds from the PNP Capability Enhancement Programs for 2021 and 2022.
Olay said the acquisition of the equipment “will further enhance and improve operational functions and duties” of PNP offices and units nationwide.
Azurin said the PNP’s success in fulfilling its mandate not only depends on the caliber of its personnel but also on the quality of equipment given to them.
“Hence, this newly-acquired equipment represents a key investment that will amplify our law enforcement capabilities and we will continue to invest in the latest technology and equipment to stay ahead of the curve,” said Azurin.
Azurin urged personnel to use the new equipment “wisely and responsibly” and “in accordance with our core values of professionalism, integrity and excellence.”
“We must ensure that these resources are used to improve our services and to protect our communities from harm and to use them with utmost care and responsibility,” Azuri said.
“May these newly-blessed PNP equipment serve as an inspiration for us to continue working hard and striving for excellence in our service to the people,” he added.
