FORMER President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was discharged yesterday from the Makati Medical Center where he underwent a comprehensive check-up, his spokeswoman said.
“Happy to report that Former President Noynoy Aquino has been discharged from the hospital today,” lawyer Abigail Valte said in a message sent to media.
She said there is no need for the former president to undergo further check-up abroad. She did not provide details on Aquino’s health condition.
Valte said the former President thanked “everyone who sent prayers and well-wishes.”
Aquino went to the hospital on December 9 for a check-up but was confined in the intensive care unit the following day.
Valte said the stay at the ICU was done “as a courtesy” and the former president was later transferred to a regular room at his request.
She also denied reports that Aquino had suffered a heart attack or underwent a heart procedure.
When news about the former President’s confinement was published, Valte said Aquino joked that he was rumored to have undergone heart procedure because he was heartbroken.
Valte said then that the Aquino just went to the hospital for a “scheduled check-up and a routine procedure.”
In August this year, Aquino missed the commemoration of his father’s death anniversary because he was sick.
During his stint as President, he was known as a smoker and would sometime break speeches during fits of smoker’s cough.
