THE Philippine Embassy in South Korea yesterday urged Filipinos to observe safety precautions amid the summer heat wave.

In an advisory, the embassy said they should drink plenty of water and stay as much as possible in cooler areas when they feel symptoms of heat-related illnesses and exhaustion such as nausea, dizziness, or headache.

“Likewise, constantly check the news for heat wave warnings or updates,” the embassy advised Filipinos.

Last week, South Korea raised the hot weather warning to its highest level as temperatures rose to over 38 degrees Celsius in some parts of the country. At least 22 persons were reported to have died from the heat.

A heat wave is an extended period of hot weather relative to the expected conditions of the area at that time of year, which may be accompanied by high humidity, the embassy added.

Heat-related illnesses such as cramps and heat stroke become more prevalent during extreme weather conditions.

There are about 65,000 Filipinos living and working in South Korea.
