THE Philippine Embassy in Morocco yesterday advised Filipinos in Guinea-Conakry to stay home amid a reported coup attempt by the military against Guinea’s long-serving President Alpha Conde.
The embassy issued the advisory hours after soldiers announced they have ousted Conde, telling the nation they had dissolved the government and constitution, and closed its land and air borders.
The embassy said Filipinos there can reach the Honorary Consulate or the Embassy in Rabat at telephone no. +212694202178. The embassy exercise concurrent jurisdiction over Guinea.
The embassy did not say how many Filipinos are living or working in Guinea while the Department of Foreign Affairs has yet to issue a statement.
Conde, 83, won heavily disputed elections last year. He won the presidency for the first time in 2010, taking control from a military that had governed the country since 2008.
