THE Philippine Embassy in Cairo yesterday reminded Filipinos illegally staying in Egypt they have until March 15 to get the proper documents to legitimize their stay in the country.
The embassy called on Filipinos to use the period to legitimize their residency status considering that the Egyptian government has already extended the grace period for foreigners illegally staying or working in the country for another three months from the original deadline of Dec. 15, 2023.
It said foreigners seeking tourist and non-tourist residence permits in Egypt must pay residency fees, late fines or residence card issuance, either through US dollars or equivalent foreign currencies.
The embassy said all Filipino workers in Egypt must obtain work permits and licenses from the Ministry of Manpower and its affiliated offices to legitimize their stay.
Meanwhile, the embassy said it is the responsibility of the Egyptian spouse to assist Filipinos and their children in getting Egyptian residence visas, identification cards, as well as marriage and birth certificates.
However, the embassy reminded Filipinos “they must always keep their valid passport, and not their employer and or sponsor.”
