PHILCEMENT yesterday said the Department of Trade and Industry has affirmed that its markings and labels are in compliance with instructions of the Bureau of Philippine Standards, and the same standards have been applied to cement terminals operated by the Cement Manufacturers Association of the Philippines (CeMAP) member companies.
It said the DTI’s decision favoring Philcement was issued on April 6.
Philcement was reacting to a recent statement from CeMAP, represented by its executive director Cirilo Pestaño who said he has called the DTI’s attention to the possible non-compliance of Philcement’s “Union V Super Strength 40” Type 1P cement with Philippine National Standards and the DTI’s new rules covering the cement industry.
Philcement, in a statement, said Pestaño “should have knowledge of the DTI’s resolution of this issue in favor of Philcement.”
It said Pestaño’s statements about Union Cement Super “are contrary to the clear ruling of the DTI, are thus malicious and irresponsible.”
“Such claims are patently false and provide the public with erroneous and inaccurate information as they do not take into account the fact that the DTI had already concluded that Philcement has complied with the law,” it also said.

“To pursue its operations in the Philippines, Philcement has poured close to P2.6B in investments for its plant and port facility in Mariveles, Bataan and has other expansion projects in the pipeline that will not only support the country’s cement requirements but will also generate jobs and livelihood for our kababayans, in line with our mission to make lives better,” it added.
