PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to address hunger and malnutrition in the country as the Philippines and the United Nation’s World Food Programme (WFP) renewed their partnership on Monday.
The President, during the courtesy call of WFP executives led by Executive Director Cindy McCain, said that while hunger and malnutrition incidents in the Philippines have already improved through the years, “more still has to be done.”
“Our vision for a hunger-free Bagong Pilipinas includes strong collaboration with Executive Director McCain and the rest of WFP. Through expanding School Meals and Farm-to-School projects, alongside the Walang Gutom 2027 program, we are committed to ensuring access to nutritious meals for all,” the President said in his official Facebook account.
McCain lauded the President and his administration for giving importance and for prioritizing the nutrition and welfare of Filipino children through various initiatives, including feeding programs.
“I think it’s very important that you (have the) foresight in implementing our school feeding programs and become self-sufficient in the long run,” McCain said, adding that the WFP “love that program.”
She also lauded the implementation of the digital food stamp program, citing that the Philippines serves as a model for other countries to follow.
