THE Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) said it will be part of a renewed mission to “open doors” to different sectors.

This means the Catholic Church wants to establish better relationships with those who are not usually part of the Catholic Church communities.

“(We are moved to open) the door of renewing our structures and ministries, leaving behind those that do not help and embracing those that make us a community; doors that lead to building bridges, closing the gaps, and promoting equality,” the CBCP said in a statement after the National Synodal Consultation held in Tagaytay City last week.

To establish better relationships, the CBCP said, prelates are committed to ensuring simplicity and humility.

“We heard strong voices calling us, our clergy, consecrated persons, and lay collaborators to heed the call to conversion, to go out of our comfort zones, to be welcoming, to be transparent and accountable, to be more compassionate,” said the CBCP.

The statement was issued at the conclusion of the four-day National Synodal Consultation held in Tagaytay City from July 4-7.

It was attended by around 200 bishops, lay leaders, consecrated persons, and clergymen.

The event follows similar consultations held in dioceses, prelatures, and apostolic vicariates nationwide involving different sectors in the community.
