THE Philippines and Bangladesh are planning to establish defense cooperation through the conduct of military exercises, a Philippine military official.

Maj. Gen. Noel Beleran, AFP deputy chief of staff for education, training and doctrine, discussed the matter with visiting Bangladeshi Brig. Gen. Kazi Anisuzzaman, Directing Staff Army-6 of the National Defense College of Bangladesh, who paid a courtesy call on Wednesday at the AFP general headquarters at Camp Aguinaldo in Quezon City.

“We are planning to establish our defense cooperation and our shared responsibility through education and training in pursuit of a more stable Indo-Pacific,” said Beleran.

AFP public affairs office chief Lt. Col. Enrico Gil Ileto said Beleran “discussed AFP’s courses and exchange programs as well as plans to continue working with allies in terms of education and training.”

During the meeting, Anisuzzaman talked about challenges confronting Bangladesh, and their goals.

“We need you and we need our brothers beside us. We value your country,” said Anisuzzaman as he expressed hopes of “increasing connectivity” with partner nations.

Anisuzzaman also met with Army chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido at the Army headquarters at Fort Bonifacio last Tuesday.

Army spokesman Col. Xerxes Trinidad said Galido and Anisuzzaman “discussed possible training and education exchanges” between two armies.

Trinidad said Galido expressed his “profound gratitude” for Bangladesh’s efforts to strengthen its defense diplomatic ties with the Philippines.

He also said Galido underscored the “significance of international cooperation in ensuring mutual security and stability.”
