THE PNP has suspended the permits issued to mining firms to transport explosives, days after President Duterte claimed some of the explosives are ending up in the hands of the New People’s Army.

In a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP chief Debold Sinas said the suspension, which took effect last Friday, will remain until they come up with procedures on the proper transport of the explosives.

“Starting January 1, all permits issued for the transport of explosives, to those involved in mining, are temporarily suspended until we come up with the (procedures),” said Sinas said.

Sinas said the PNP is currently coming up with measures to ensure that clearances are issued to firms that have been confirmed by police and military commanders in areas where these firms operate.

Once finished, the procedures will be submitted to the President, through the Department of Interior and Local Government, for his approval.

“He noticed, he has received report that some of these explosives that are for the mining firms are ending up in the hands of the CPP-NPA,” Sinas said.

Last December 22, Duterte ordered tighter monitoring on sales of explosives, noting the communists get their explosives from mining sites.
