CHIEF Justice Diosdado Peralta yesterday welcomed the positive approval rating he got in the latest survey of Pulse Asia on public officials despite the low awareness rating that he received.

Peralta said he understands the reason for his low awareness rating — that he and the magistrates of the Supreme Court are appointed officials who shun the limelight.

“I am happy that despite a relatively lower awareness by the public, I still had a positive approval rating. The Chief Justice and the other magistrates of the Judiciary are all appointed officials, hence, the lower awareness by the public,” Peralta said in a statement.

The survey showed 44 percent approved of Peralta’s performance while 13 percent said otherwise.

President Dutere received the highest approval rating of 91 percent in the latest Pulse Asia survey, followed by Senate President Vicente Sotto III, Vice President Leni Robredo and Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano.

Peralta said he is focused on providing the necessary reforms in the Judiciary to ensure that justice will be better served.

“That is the thrust of the Peralta Court. The Chief Justice is more concerned on the effectiveness of the rules and circulars that were issued and implemented during my one year tenure as Chief Justice, which include those issued during the COVID-19 pandemic in order for the public to have continuous access to our courts,” he added.

Peralta said he will face the media on October 23, when he celebrates his first year anniversary as Chief Justice, to discuss how far the Judiciary has implemented his 10-point agenda he announced when he assumed the post.
