PEACE and unity in diversity all over the world were recently discussed during the World Philosophical Forum (WPF) held for the first time in the Philippines at the Century Park Hotel in Malate, Manila.
Albani Shariff Ibrahim, WPF chairman of the Philippines branch, said problems on poverty, hunger, education, and insurgency were likewise tackled and addressed by around 1,200 WPF officials and members.
There were also an animated dialogues on current political issues, Ibrahim said.
The WPF, founded by Igor Kondrashin, is a UNESCO forum that was organized following the adoption of an Intersectoral Strategy on Philosophy in 2005 aimed at conveying the dynamics of philosophy into concrete activities that will boost cooperation and reciprocal enrichment between philosophers of various regions of the world, as well as promoting philosophy itself as a true exercise of freedom.
During the WPF meeting, three main pillars of action were identified in order to respond in a more appropriate way to expectations of philosophy experts and advocates of this discipline: (1) the promotion of dialogue and philosophical analysis of contemporary questions, (2) the encouragement of the teaching of philosophy, and (3) the promotion and dissemination of philosophical knowledge in order to make sure that philosophy is accessible to all.
