LOCAL government units across the country received close to a billion pesos in 2022 from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office to augment their funds for health and medical services. The agency’s 2022 accomplishment report showed LGUs received P948,173,268.75 in shares from lotto and small town lottery (STL) proceeds.
Lotto shares amounted to P395,224,629.26, while STL shares reached P552,948,639.49. The PCSO is mandated to remit 5 percent of proceeds from the sale of lotto tickets to cities and municipalities, and 2 percent to provinces.
“Ang pag-remit namin ng lotto shares ay sang-ayon sa Executive Order No. 357-A, na nagtatakdang dapat may matanggap mula sa Charity Fund ang mga LGU (The remittance of lotto shares is mandated under Executive Order No. 357-A, which ensures that LGUs get their share from the agency’s Charity Fund),” said PCSO chairman Junie Cua.
On the other hand, Cua said the 2020 STL Revised Implementing Rules and Regulations requires the PCSO to also remit a portion of its STL sales to LGUs. The chairman said the shares provide crucial boost to LGUs so they could serve their constituencies better.
Likewise, Cua said that in accordance with President Marcos Jr.’s directives, the PCSO will strive to become stronger partners of LGUs in service delivery.
“Nagsisikap po kami para mapaigting ang paglilingkod, hindi lang sa pamamagitan ng lotto at STL shares, kundi pati na rin sa mandato naming tumulong sa pamamagitan ng medical assistance at iba’t ibang institutional partnership (We are working double time to boost our social services not only through the remittance of lotto and STL shares, but also through the provision of medical assistance and inking partnerships with other government institutions),” Cua said.
Cua said the PCSO has 72 branches nationwide which are ready to provide assistance to Filipinos who need a variety of assistance.
