THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday reported an oil spill off Davao City and assured that operations are ongoing to address the problem.

In a statement, the PCG said the Marine Environmental Protection Force (MEPForce) of the Coast Guard District Southeastern Mindanao received a phone call last Tuesday night about a potential oil spill off Davsam Port in Davao City.

The PCG said MEPForce personnel promptly responded to verify the information.

Upon arrival, MEPForce personnel confirmed a sludge oil has affected an area of around 200 cubic meters.

The PCG said it was still investigating what caused the oil spill.

The PCG said an oil response team from MEPForce deployed an oil spill absorbent boom and absorbent pads as part of the “containment and recovery efforts.”

It said some 30 liters of oil have been so far retrieved.
