PHILIPPINE Guard personnel rescued four fishermen whose boat capsized off Carcar City in Cebu yesterday morning after encountering a squall or sudden violent gust of winds.
PCG spokesman Capt. Armand Balilo identified the fishermen as Eric Campo, 45; Hoven Gasalatan, 33; Jonas Padillo, 28; and Jaypee Gasalatan, 21, residents of Barangay Tanke, Talisay City, in Cebu.
“Investigation revealed…that they were en route to Bohol to buy fish but encountered severe squall while in the middle of Cebu Strait at 5 a.m. this morning,” Balilo said.
Balilo said personnel of the PCG’s BRP Suluan, conducting routine patrol en route to Cebu City, sighted and rescued the fishermen around 9:22 a.m. about 9.2 nautical miless off Carcar Point.
Balilo said the fishermen were brought to Pier 1 Aduana Wharf in Cebu City and were treated by PCG medical personnel. — Victor Reyes
