PHILIPPINE Coast Guard (PCG) commandant Adm. Ronnie Gil Gavan has ordered an investigation on a junior PCG officer who recently violated traffic regulations at the South Luzon Expressway.
Earlier this month, Ensign Alain Anthony Agpalo entered the SLEX aboard a motorcycle with an engine displacement of 148cc. Only motorcycles with engine displacement of 400cc and above are allowed at SLEX.
Worse, Agpalo reached the speed of 140 kph, breaching the 100 kph speed limit at the expressway. He also refused to stop when traffic enforcers flagged him down.
The video of the reckless driving spread on social media.
The PCG said it received a letter from the Intelligence and Investigation Division of the Land Transportation Office on January 4 about the incident.
Agpalo appeared before the LTO office yesterday and was directed to submit a written explanation as to why he should not be charged administratively for disregarding traffic signs and for reckless driving, and why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked.
Agpalo was commissioned into the PCG force after finishing his Coast Guard training in October 2019.
Gavan said any PCG member found violating laws “must face the consequences of their actions.”
“Here at the Philippine Coast Guard, we do not tolerate officers or personnel violating laws and regulations implemented by other agencies,” Gavan said in ordering a parallel investigation.
