THE Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) yesterday said it has regained control of its X (formerly Twitter) account which was “compromised” for a few hours.
It said the PCG’s Public Affairs Service, which is handling the account @coastguardph
account, “immediately coordinated with X Support Team to report the incident.
The PCG refrained from using the term “hacking” to describe the incident because “when we say hacking, there is malicious intent.”
“We used the term compromised because as we speak, we have not monitored any malicious utilization of the account, specifically malicious tweets. While we have advised our followers to be mindful of such scenario, we believe that we had a security breach,” it said.
The PCG said the account, while out of its control, “was used to like and repost crypto-related posts of an unknown entity.”
The PCG announced the incident at around 11 a.m. yesterday. About 30 minutes later, the agency said it has “retrieved access” to its X account with the assistance of an X Support Team.
