PRESIDENT Marcos Jr. will be on a state visit today to the Czech Republic to promote strengthening of ties between the Manila and with Prague and seek better protection for Filipino workers in the European country.

The President is flying to Prague on Wednesday (Thursday in Manila) after concluding his official visit to Germany.

The overnight state visit to the Czech Republic is Marcos’ sixth international trip this year. It is on the invitation of Czech Republic President Petr Pavel.

Marcos, during his departure speech in Manila last Monday, said he intends to call for the promotion of compliance with rules-based international order, during his visit to Prague.

The President will meet with Czech’s four constitutional heads of government — Pavel, Prime Minister Petr Fiala, Senate President MiloÅ¡ Vystrčil, and Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies Markéta Pekarová Adamová.

He will also attend a meeting with business executives and invite them to consider the Philippines as a production hub for their products.

He said he wishes to harness the Czech Republic’s expertise on agriculture, manufacturing, especially in the automotive industry, transportation, renewable energy, space, and scientific instruments that they have been leading the world in, in terms of technology.

Marcos will also meet with the Filipino community to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to promoting their welfare and to explore ways of harnessing their talents for the betterment of the Philippines.

There are about 7,000 Filipinos in the Czech Republic.

Also expected to be signed with Prague is a joint communiqué on the establishment of a labor consultation mechanism which aims to elevate cooperation between the Philippines and the Czech Republic for the safe and orderly migration of Filipino workers and to provide a higher level of protection of their rights and their welfare.

The President is expected to return to Manila on Friday.
