PBA close to hurdling obstacles

IS the PBA finally seeing the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel?

League sources believe so, pointing out a glitch-free track record dating back to last year and ongoing vaccinations that should convince concerned government agency to give the green light for the PBA to go ahead with its long-delayed 46th season.

“Wala ng puwedeng idahilan pa ang task force,” said one PBA insider. “Since (last year’s) Philippine Cup hindi nagkaroon ng problema sa PBA and kahit sa last three weeks ng practices wala ring aberya.”

Another source said that some of the teams’ personnel have received at least their first jabs of the COVID 19 vaccines, with more, if not all, expected to be inoculated once the vaccines ordered by the league and its member teams arrive later this month.

According to vaccine Czar Sec. Carlito Galvez, the first shipment of Moderna vaccines is set to arrive in the country by June 21.

The PBA, San Miguel Corp. and Manny V. Pangilinan groups are among the private sector entities that have placed orders of the US-made vaccines.

“There are some team members who have already been vaccinated so once more vaccines come in, the entire PBA family should be completely vaccinated,” offered the second source.

Terrafirma coach Johnedel Cardel said some of the team members have started getting their vaccines since last week. Ditto for those from NLEX and Magnolia.

“Hindi ako sigurado, pero I think mga hanggang walo sa amin,” related Road Warriors coach Yeng Guiao in a previous interview, admitting he himself has been vaccine with Astrazeneca.

“Kasama na coaching staff, ‘yung may mga comorbidities,” added Guiao, 62.
